The word technology sometimes leads to confusion.
Actually, many people think of really funky machines when they come across it. The idea that a pen represented technology in the past, or many other simple services created to satisfy people, does not really spring to mind at first.
I have mixed feelings about technology because I love the things new toys can do, but at the same time, I love the old ones. I used to play up the trees and now I see children who don’t leave their homes and sit for too long.
Anyway, regarding technology I think the first one is my mobile phone. That is for a very simple reason. I like the idea of integration. For me to have a camera the music I like and a diary with the numbers of people I want to ring, is really good. I can't believe I used to memorize so many numbers! My brain must be deteriorating big time nowadays. The best part of it is the organizer. This is the only way I get to pay bills on time, send an invoice "boleta" on certain dates; etc. got it in 2012 and use it all the time.
The second item I'd like to mention is the external disc drive. I think when you have lost all your info because your PC died or because you got it stolen or whatever reason, it can be really tragic. That is why I learnt we need to save info on a safe place that "ideally" will not collapse or disappear. I have complete books, whole albums of good music, and lots of documents that have taken me hours to download or write myself and don't want to lose. I don't remember when I got this, but it was long ago. Could I live without them? Hell yeah! I would have to get used to it, that's all.

I'm with you when you talk about te external disc drive. Is the salvation of the world jaja. I use te external disc to save pirate games to my Wii.
ReplyDeleteBut I hate the cellphones. I use that, but I hate it. I hate stay in a party with my friends and see all of them trying to talk with other people that wasn't here, in the party. Is ridiculous.
So, si your opinion versus my opinion.
Regards.
I like when you say that you certanly could live without these things, because many people say they could not!! So I think that's great. Also, I understand when you say you have mix feelings about technology, I have them too, because these things are very useful, but separate people from each other. I have seen couples that were eating in a restaurant and they did not speak each other and were looking at their phones all the time!! So, it's a complicated topic because it have good and bad things.
ReplyDeleteWow! I've really loved your post. I think that we can really get the best of all our devices if we use them trying not depending on them. Also I agree with Javiera when she says that they musn't separate us from other people. Thank you for sharing your opinion with us!
ReplyDeleteI also have mixed feelings because of the technology growth. I'ts right that make things easier, but as well change too much the way of human relate with each other. I think that one of the big dangers in the future is to loose the aptitude of talk and conversate with the others, then I understand your preoccupation.
ReplyDeleteSee you!
I accord whit the point of the integration, it's very comfortable have all ours equipment always avaible, in a only device, and can get this in the poket. However, I must add the idea of a virtual disc, the smartphones allow the access to internet, when you can access to all information, and also up data to get access in the future, for example whit the cloud services, its fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI think the same about the use of the technology or better to say the abuse of the technology, people don’t worry and just give cellphones, tablets or game consoles to the kids and that carry a lot of problems for their health
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about the mixed feelings. The positive aspects of the technology are undeniable, but is necessary consired the problems and dangers. Is so alarming the dependency to the objects. ( especially, the dependency of the mobile phone)
ReplyDeleteThanks for upload your post :3 !
I also have lots of feeling about technology. But I think if we use appropriately the mobile phone it could be very useful. For example I don't live with my sister, and I love when she called me or when we can speak through skype in hour mobile phones.
ReplyDeleteI agree with almost every comments on here. I think that is an interesting thing that people have mixed feelings about technology. What would mean that we're afraid of the things that we do? I mean, we don't have real chains keeping us fixed to cellphones, but we also feel anxious all the time if we are not keeping one (really! there's a new phobia named "nomophobia", haha). Anyway, the good thing is that, for social sciences, there are new topics to investigate (like the contradictions by using technology objects, for example). See you!
ReplyDeleteInteresting reflection of the meaning of technology nowadays. I think that new generations are loosing the meaning of simplicity in terms of the technology and, agreeding with Carlos, that is changing the way we are realing whith each other...
ReplyDeleteI think that sometimes the progress technological is not synonyms of a "best life". I say this because effectively the technology is very useful, help us, but.... is for this same reason (use the technology for all) that we finish for depend of thing like the internet, cell phone, computer, etc...
ReplyDeleteI belive that all are this :( I too
I like your position about the technology, as a society, we must learn to live with it. I also consider of a great importance the influence of it in today´s children.
ReplyDeleteIs very important to know that technology is not only what we understand as electronics or modern developments, sometimes we forget the simplest things. The value of things has changed, today's technology is made for a world dominated by the instant, I don't think it's something totally negative, but we should reflect on that.
ReplyDeletehi teacher, also I think than my cellphone is very important, because allow conect us with friends, family, and help us for not forget important event, and academic responsabilities.
ReplyDeletewell, see you Thursday!
I think that technology brings a lot of benefits to our daily life but I also believe that it is damagin some aspects of our society. Especially in the younger ones. For example my younger brother spends a lot of time playing videogames, on the other hand, when I was his age I used to love playing outside. Sometimes I wish and encourage him to do it as well.
